Red Knight can battle his way to the top
A fast early pace is likely in the Grade 3 Sycamore Stakes (9.47), the feature on Keeneland’s Thursday night card, and that will suit the morning line second favourite Red Knight, who has drawn the perfect post in gate two.
The Bill Mott-trained six-year-old has finished first or second on 13 of his 20 career outings and has the benefit of boasting useful tactical speed, which often gets him out of trouble.
He also has good collateral form with a number of his rivals in this field, including Eons, Postulation and He’s No Lemon, all of whom he beat when finishing second in the Grade 3 Kentucky Turf Cup last time out.
Red Knight finished a highly creditable second that day, finishing well from mid-division to find just Arklow too good on his first career outing at the idiosyncratic Kentucky Downs. The form of that contest is strong, with Zulu Alpha, considered the best turf router in the States, finishing behind him in third.
You can further mark up that effort as he returned from an eight month absence after a couple of light works, so further improvement is likely, and a fast early gallop will allow him to settle against the rail in mid
